Big Decision this Week for Some Local School Districts
A decision could come this week as to whether three local school districts want to move forward with the idea of consolidation.

The Committee of Ten met in Abingdon Monday night to speak with the the residents and the school board there.

Committee Chairman Jerry Arthur says later this week the group will gather with Abingdon, Avon, and Bushnell Prairie City to talk about the districts futures.

"We are going to have, hopefully, the boards of education decide on Thursday night, perhaps they've decided in their own minds, but formally deciding, 'Is this issue going to go to the community for a vote?" That's the first item. The second item is, 'What's the board of education going to look like?' We've recommended the seven districts so there will be equal population breaks."

Arthur adds that a consultant will have to be hired to address the recommendation of redistricting a new school board and that will come at a price, though it is not clear what that will be.

Consolidation among the three schools has been talked about since the committee was formed in 2009.
