Summer River Study Planned for Illinois River
(IRN)-The dirty, silty Illinois River is going to get a checkup.

The Peoria-based Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and Bradley University will recruit and train volunteers to collect information from the river and some local tributaries, including Farm Creek and Kickapoo Creek.

Illinois-American Water Company has given the study a $5,500 grant. Melissa Eaton, an environmental planning specialist with the Tri-County Commission, says, "You need to look at the watershed, the area of land draining into a common body of water. Everything that happens on the land impacts the water."

The work will be done this summer.
