Preliminary Design Work Near Completion for Lombard Renovation
Public meetings will continue from time to time, but the last of the meetings with the public regarding the design of one part of phase one of the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan is complete.

Engineers and the district met with the Master Facilities Committee Tuesday night for the final design meeting regarding renovations at Lombard Middle School. Among the plans in the $10 million worth of renovations proposed: converting four classrooms into three in some places and three into four in others, a two-story entranceway that officials say should make the school look unique, and possibly a bigger band room.

The band room seemed to garner the most discussion at one point. But Master Facilities Committee Member Mike Kroll says that made him think.

"It seems as though as the outsider, and you can sneer at me in a minute, that we've gotten away from anyone wanting to make any compromises now and is trenching to protecting their turf as opposed to trying to find a reasonable compromise that could work and still maintain the betterment of the entire building."

Windows will also be replaced in the older portion of Lombard, but possibly not in an addition put up in 2001.

The Galesbug School Board Building Committee will meet later in the month to talk about the plan prior to a July Galesburg School Board vote.

A similar meeting about the sometimes-controversial plans to renovate Galesburg High School is Thursday night at seven, open to the public, in the GHS Library.
