Tourism Council Wants to Define its Mission
The Knox County Tourism Council wants to create separate missions both for them, and the agency they oversee, the Galesburg-Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Tourism Council talked about that at length Tuesday. While the Tourism Council's mission is to essentially market Galesburg so that there are more people that visit town and spend the night here, CVB Executive Director Judy Guenseth says the mission statements should be similar but somewhat different.

Guenseth says first, though, you have to understand the mission statement.

"When we do propose new ideas or activities, we can take them and process them through the mission and say 'That's a great program, but it doesn't fit our mission.' Just recently someone came to me and said, 'We need to try and have a pumpkin regatta' and they were just pretty sure we needed to do one, kind of like a cardboard boat regatta except using big pumpkins, but I don't see that as the CVB being the one to come up with that."

While some tourism council members did come up with some ideas, like making reference to those looking for day trips, a special meeting was called for July 12th to devote an entire meeting to the topic, as opposed to spreading it out over several meetings.
