Abingdon Board of Education Greenlights Consolidation Process
Abingdon School District 217 wants to move ahead with a possible consolidation with Avon and Bushnell Prairie City School Districts.

After a community meeting Monday, in which the Committee of Ten presented their recommendations to the board and residents, the Abingdon of Education is ready to let the people decide want they want.

Superintendent Tami Roskamp says there a number to steps to make that happen.

"There's three steps that we need to do now, through the motions, the first is the board needs to affirm their desire to continue with the reorganization process based on the Committee of Ten's recommendations. Another one is to direct the superintendent, Mr. Black, to work with legal council as well as the other superintendents with other required petitions, and then you're also going to have an expenditure with that, so you're going to need to put that down because there's a fee when you deal with an attorney doing the petition, they haven't stated which attorney they're going to use, but it's probably between $200 and $400."

All of that was unanimously approved by board members at their meeting Wednesday night, and the Avon and Bushnell-Prairie City School Boards did as well.

Now, all three school districts will meet Thursday to discuss their decisions and where to go from here.
