Repairs on Orpheum Theatre Roof to Begin
Repairs are about to be made to a roof at the Orpheum Theatre that can be opened in order to keep a fire from spreading.

Theatre president Kate Francis says Dowers Roofing was the only firm to respond to a solicitation for bids, and will make the repairs to what's called a stage relief hood.

Francis tells WGIL 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts at one point during a storm in April damaged the roof, and it's becoming an eyesore.

"The underlayment of the original roof which most of it is now gone, is beginning to curl up and so when you look at the top of the theatre you can obviously see that there's some damage and most of that will be removed when the roof is repaired so we're ready to move forward and get that taken care of."

The cost will be around $12,000 and Francis says a line of credit the theatre has established will pay for the repairs.

Speaking of money, Francis says she told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday that the Orpheum posted yet another profit, and on track to eclipse revenue targets for the current year despite the roof repairs.

She also says attendance is over 16,000 for the theatre so far this year, and that's on track to eclipse last year.
