Production Studo On Hold for Abingdon High School
Abingdon School Board members have voted to put a planned technology project on hold in the district.

Board members Wednesday night voted to table a measure to select bids for a TV production room for the high school, which would be paid for with a $250,000 donation from the Zimmer family.

Incoming Superintendent David Black was confused as to why the committee working the project wants to put things on hold now, after the school's architect was utilized at the cost of $12,000, and the bidding process was started, in which bids only last for 30 days.

Mark Rogers, technology director for the district is on that committee and had a simple answer.

"The issue is it just got, it kept growing. What we wanted was a video room and then we had to put up a wall for the control room, so then than had to involve the architect."

Bids for the project came back at about $130,000, which is about $20,000 less than the school's architect estimated.

Still Cindy Arthur, also on the committee, worried the $130,000 would be spent on the construction, but the technology aspect of the TV-production room coming together was not clear to her.

The board could take up the measure again later, but bids will likely have to be let out all over again, and there's a possibility the architect would again be involved at an additional cost.
