Local School Districts Want to Move Forward with Consolidation Process
Avon, Abingdon, and Bushnell Prairie City School Districts all agree, the question of consolidation should be put to the voters.

Each district voted Wednesday night to continue with the process of reorganization and all met Thursday to affirm their decisions with the Committee of Ten, the group that has spent more than a year looking at possibilities for a consolidated district.

Committee Chairman Jerry Arthur tells WGIL there is still a lot of work to do, some of which will be contracted out.

"Mr. Chad Sperry is the director of the GIS Department at Western Illinois University and their task is to lay out population breakouts and make recommendations as to where the lines would be drawn for setting up the board breakouts so that basically throughout the three communities involved, it would be based on total population."

Once district lines are complete which will cost at least $2,000, the three boards of education will work on petitions for the March ballot question and approval from the Regional Office of Education.
