Gilson Man Accused in Fatal DUI Make Court Appearance
The 19 year old accused in the death of a 15 year old Knoxville High School student in April made his first court appearance Friday.

Jose Beltran appeared before Judge Ray Cavanaugh, filling in for Judge Scott Shiplett, in Knox County Circuit Court with his attorney David Clark.

Beltran faces charges for aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, a Class-2 felony, reckless homicide, a Class-3 felony, and driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of liquor by a minor, which are both Class-A misdemeanors.

A preliminary hearing has been set for July 5th at two p.m. in the case.
Beltran was driving with three passengers in the car early in the morning on April 22nd, when the car struck a power pole and rolled several times.

15 year old Brandon Melton was killed in the accident and two other 15 year old passengers were hospitalized for a time.

49 year old Jean Lenz of Knoxville was arrested last week in the case, and she is charged with unlawful delivery of alcohol to a minor. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 6th at nine o'clock.
