United Way Starts Fundraising Campaign Earlier
The Knox County United Way is starting earlier this year on its annual fundraising campaign, in hopes that it pays big dividends later.

United Way Executive Director Ann Tucker says the goal for the 2011-2012 campaign is $360,000, $10,000 more than the previous campaign -- a goal which was reached after the fundraising deadline had been extended to the end of January.

Tucker tells WGIL she always hopes to end fundraising by December 31st, but she knows why she might not be done then.

"Part of that is because companies tend to report later to us," Tucker said. "But we're going to try locally to raise as much as we can before that December 31st deadline. We've already given a campaign presentation at Target, so we're off and running already."

Tucker says she doesn't necessarily want to stretch the campaign out any longer than necessary because there are plenty of other organizations also asking for the community's support.

But the hope is to be able to give the agency's several-dozen partner agencies an idea of what they'll be allocated as soon as possible, so they can form their budgets.

The United Way's fundraising campaign is expected to end around the end of October.
