Knox County Man Charged with Dragging Dog
A Knox County man is in trouble with the law after he claims he taught his dog a lesson for getting loose.

54 year old Douglas Briggs made his first appearance in Knox County Circuit Court Tuesday. He faces a class-three felony charge of Animal Torture, a class-four felony charge of Aggravated Cruel Treatment of Animals, and a misdemeanor charge of Cruel Treatment of animals.

Briggs was arrested Sunday in Yates City. The Knox County State's Attorney says Briggs' dog got loose in the area, and when he found him, he did not pick the pet up and put it in his vehicle, instead, he put the dog on a leash and drove around, leading the pet to be dragged alongside the vehicle.

Prosecutors say the dog had to be taken to an emergency veterinarian to be treated for paw injuries.

Briggs is believed to have told investigators he's not sorry for what he did.
A judge set Briggs' bond at $20,000. Briggs told the judge he has hired a lawyer, but a hearing has been scheduled for Friday morning.
