Changes Nearby to U of I Extension Offices
The long-talked-about reorganization of the University of Illinois Extension and its offices officially takes place in less than two weeks.

Lisa Fulkerson is officially the director of the Extension offices for Knox, Warren, McDonough, and Henderson Counties, and says offices will remain in all four counties, though Knox and McDonough Counties will serve as the "hub" for what's also known as Unit 10.

Fulkerson tells the WGIL Morning News staff members local residents know are getting reassigned and may not be seen in these parts, or in their current roles, much longer.

"Tony Franklin, who had been the county director here, along with Cheryl Geitner, who had been in Youth Development and Life Educator for Knox County for some years, are both being relocated up to Henry-Stark-Rock Island-Mercer [Counties Extension Office]," Fulkerson said. "Tony's already there, but Cheryl will be heading up there July first. Kyle Cecil -- he's bee in the Knox County office -- he'll be changing his emphasis from commercial agriculture back to small farms, local foods expertise."

Fulkerson says Economic Development Educator Carrie McKillip, who's most recently been working with Knoxville's community action team, will continue in that role for the four-county region, and there also will be a new youth development educator for the region as well.

The changes and cuts are due to massive state budget cuts that also affected other parts of the University of Illinois.
