For Sale: Giant Slide, Slightly Used
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Anyone in the market for a Giant Slide?

The man who's owned the Giant Slide at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield since 1995 is putting the attraction up for sale.

Dennis Herrington tells The (Springfield) State Journal-Register that he's hoping to get the sale done before the fair starts in August. The 57-year-old slide entrepreneur says he's had some health problems and doesn't have any children to help him operate the slide.

Herrington says the slide is about 40 feet high and 130 feet long. It stands just inside the Main Gate of the fairgrounds and was erected in 1968.

Herrington is asking $175,000, and he's working on the sale with Prairie State Bank & Trust.
