Report: Public Health Provisions Still Unfunded
CHICAGO (AP) -- A new report says many public health provisions in the nation's year-old health care law have not received funding, and other funded efforts are under political attack.

The American Public Health Association is releasing the report Friday at a meeting in Chicago.

It says only 10 of 18 programs in the Affordable Care Act aimed at expanding the supply of public health workers have received funding. Training grants and loan forgiveness programs remain unfunded.

A new mandatory money pool created by the law, the Prevention and Public Health Fund, has been threatened in Congress with defunding or elimination.

Dr. Georges Benjamin, the public health group's director, says opportunities will be missed without an investment in the professionals who oversee community health efforts such as immunizations, restaurant inspections and quit-smoking programs.
