Bumper Sticker Contest Complete
One of the first initiatives of a new Galesburg alderman has officially bore fruit -- in the form of a bumper sticker.

Fifth Ward Alderman Peter Schwartzman put together a bumper sticker design contest where participants were asked to come up with artwork making Galesburg look positive, and he's announced the winners.

Schwartzman told aldermen Monday night no taxpayer money went into the contest.

"This project was supported by the vast majority of the people in this room (City Council Chambers)," Schwartzman said. "The financial support for the bumper stickers came from the people in this room, out of their pocket. There was no attempt to make any money off this project by anyone, and that should be understood."

Local artists and officials judged the bumper stickers. First place in the youth division went to Phoenix Johnson, and tops in the Adult section was Lily Engebretsen.

Schwartzman says bumper stickers are available by calling him, or more than likely they'll be available at most downtown businesses.
