Railroad Days is Here Again
Mother Nature has provided an unusual year weather-wise already, which may make it hard to believe that summer has started. Perhaps the smell of onion rings, the sounds of carnival rides, and the ever-present train whistle in Galesburg, all combined, will help you change your mind.

It got underway Thursday night with the carnival, but Railroad Days officially kicks off Friday in Galesburg, with the opening ceremonies at 6pm, and a host of activities throughout the weekend.

Organizer Dennis Clark tells WGIL activities in downtown and throughout Galesburg shouldn't be hard to find.

"The carnival's in the same location (on Simmons Street), and then all the other events are basically the same. We haven't changed a thing," Clark said. "The new event that was added this year is United Way is bringing their grass volleyball out to Lake Storey, out by the ball diamonds, so that's a good addition."

Proceeds from the Volleyball tournament benefit the United Way. Entries for the tournament are still being accepted up to eight o'clock Saturday morning.

In addition to volleyball, there's a three-point shootout basketball tournament hosted again by Leadership Greater Galesburg, activities at Discovery Depot, a model train show, and a large expanse of other activities.
