Railroad Days Officially Kicks Off
A local lawmaker says Railroad Days means three things need to be done.

"We reflect on our proud railroad heritage, we appreciate the present railroad operation in Galesburg, we promise to work for an even brighter future with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and our community."

State Representative Don Moffitt helped officially kick off Railroad Days Friday evening with opening ceremonies at the Galesburg Railroad Museum.

Mayor Sal Garza also was there, and says his dad retired from Burlington Northern, so this weekend means a lot to him.

"When I took a look at all the activities, all the events that are scheduled for the next couple of days...I became a little kid again," Garza said.

Garza says trains equal jobs for the community, especially since the Galesburg Maytag plant closed. He says it's important to keep thanking Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and brag about what this city has to offer.

Visitors from as far away as Australia are believed to be in town.
