About 1,500 Citations Given Over IL Memorial Day
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Officers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources issued more than 1,500 warnings and arrests over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The department said Thursday that conservation police arrested a dozen boaters for operating under the influence and eight motorists for driving under the influence.

That's in addition to more than 600 arrest citations and about 970 written warnings statewide. The enforcement period last from May 27 through Tuesday.

There were six boating accidents that officers investigated, but none were fatal. Officers also did routine safety inspections on more than 1,200 boats.

Other offenses included possession of drugs, underage drinking, disorderly conduct, illegal fishing and boat safety violations.
