Governor Bla-GONER-vich
(IRN) -- Ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich is guilty of political corruption.

That was the verdict returned Monday afternoon at the federal courthouse in Chicago. Jurors convicted him on 17 of the 20 charges against him, including all 11 charges related to his attempt to sell or trade an appointment to the U.S. Senate in exchange for campaign contributions.

Jurors deadlocked on one charge of attempted extortion in an alleged shakedown involving funding for a school in the district of then-Congressman Rahm Emanuel.

The jury found Blagojevich not guilty of soliciting bribes in the alleged shakedown of a road-building executive. The panel deadlocked on a charge of attempted extortion on that same case.

Judge James B. Zagel has ordered Blagojevich not to travel outside the northern district of Illinois without permission. A status hearing for sentencing is set for Aug. 1.

The new convictions will add 300 years to the maximum prison sentence he faces, but he won't get anything close to that. Legal experts say he's more likely to get closer to 10 years.
