Knox County Board Ups Marriage License Fees
The Knox County Board has approved of a plan its finance committee signed off on last week that increases one type of fee in the County Clerk's office.

County Board members voted last night to up the marriage license fee in the county from $20 to $30, in order to better recoup the Clerk's office's costs.

Discussion first came up because of a loophole later fixed in the new civil union law now in effect. Fees for civil union licenses must be the same as marriage licenses, and in both cases, governments can charge no more than $75.

County Clerk Scott Erickson points out that the fees are still a bargain, since Warren County just increased their marriage and civil union licenses to $50.

The Knox County Board last night also signed off on the newly-redrawn maps for County Board districts.

Erickson says they're virtually the same as they've been previously, but with one change. He says the Knox 6 voting precinct, covering East Galesburg and areas outside Knoxville, will be changed from one precinct to two, in order to conform with state law.

He says the district has about a thousand voters now, when there should be 500.
