Moffitt Reacts to Blago Verdict
A local lawmaker says a number of ethics-related reforms have been passed since Rod Blagojevich was impeached, and he says there will be more.

But State Representative Don Moffitt tells the WGIL Morning News that's all well and good, but ultimately, it's up to the politician to decide if they want to comply.

"It still goes back to the basic honesty or integrity of the person that is holding the office," Moffitt said. "If they truly have integrity and are an honest person, they're going to do the right thing anyway."

Moffitt says it's ironic all this talk about convicted governors and lying politicians is being held where it is.

"Illinois: the Land of Lincoln. Who set the standard for honest? It was Abraham Lincoln," said Moffitt. "Now, we've had a series of Governors who have lowered that bar and made us viewed as one of the most corrupt states in the nation."

Moffitt says he hopes that changes.

Among other area lawmakers, 18th District Congressman Aaron Schock said Blagojevich's actions were "shameful."
