FISH Food Pantry Needs Help
They've always received cash donations, but now officials from the FISH food pantry is asking the public for financial support.

FISH pantry board president Lynne Devlin says letters have gone out to various agencies and organizations citing an increased need by the public, but not as many donations coming in -- at about a two-to-one ratio.

Devlin tells the WGIL Morning News that need gets larger and larger.

"We served last year about 14,000 people, which is an all-time high,' Devlin said. "At this rate, we'll probably serve 20% more this year. Friday, for instance, we served...45 families that called in need. That's a high -- very high. We average between 20 and 30 families a day."

Devlin says there continue to be misconceptions that there are many repeat users of the pantry -- while that's often the case, as many as a fourth of the users of FISH go to their Hawthorne Center-area location more than once.

Up to 97 percent of FISH's income goes toward the pantry's supplies. There are no paid positions.
