Man Denies Drugging Husky at Chicago Area Dog Show
WHEATON, Ill. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania man who faces animal cruelty charges in Illinois denies drugging a Siberian husky at a kennel club show.

The Daily Herald reports 67 year old Ralph Ullum of Claysville, Pa., faces misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and attempted criminal damage to property. He's accused of drugging a rival dog that was competing against his girlfriend's dog at a December show in suburban Chicago.

Ullum's defense attorney, Edward Maloney, says Ullum had no reason to hurt the dog, named Pixie. Maloney says that's because Ullum's girlfriend's dog had already won the competition. Maloney says Ullum denies giving any pills to Pixie.

Police say a veterinarian found Pixie had ingested a pill and a rubber band. The dog wasn't seriously hurt.
Ullum's trial is set for Sept. 8.
