Woman Missing for Decades May Be Found
A Knox County woman last seen here as much as 40 years ago may be alive and living in another state.

That's according to the Knox County Sheriffs Department. Sheriffs officials say based on information from the family, and some other investigative work, they believe Lula Cora Hood is alive.

Sergeant Jason Landers says sheriffs investigators interviewed the woman they believe is Hood on Wednesday.

"We were able to verify certain facts that we knew about Lula Cora and her family," Landers said. "So it was based on that information why we were confident in saying this is Lula Cora Hood."

Landers says her first and middle names match up, but she's using a last name different than Hood, Phillips, or Smith.

DNA testing, he says, will be done due to age and health issues to confirm whether or not the person they interviewed is Hood.

Hood's family, Landers says, has been notified of the developments.

Hood's case first came back to light last week after the case of a body found in the East Galesburg Brickyards in the 1990's was reopened. Testing determined that body wasn't Hood, but now investigators don't know who it could be.
