District 205 Sees Some Cost Savings with Budget Amendments
Some last minute federal dollars that have come the Galesburg School District could translate to some cost savings for capital projects.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill told the school board budget committee Thursday, that about $711,000 in total was moved around within the fiscal year 2011 budget.

"The net effect and what cause most of the change is receipts of dollars that were [educational] jobs related, that kind of allowed us to free up monies that were allocated in Operation Program Job Save so that we could use them for, in large part capital expenditures."

The capitol project Cahill refers to will be a fiber optic network that is part of the Master Facilities Operation Rebuild Achievement plan for the district.

Cahill putting money toward the network now means less bonds would need to be sold for that project and therefore less interest payments.

The budget amendments will now have to be approved by the full board.
Also during the budget committee meeting, Mike Panther was voted as Chairman of the committee.
