Lawmaker Says More Bi-Partisanship Would Have Been Nice
A local lawmaker says he wishes a lot of the legislation that was passed seemingly at the very end of the legislative session in Springfield were more bi-partisan than they were.

State Representative Don Moffitt says a lot of serious issues were passed with days or even hours to go in the session before a super-majority vote was needed.

Moffitt tells WGIL he doesn't think it should be that way at all.

"A lot of the issues and especially those that are very complicated and maybe have strong support on one side, strong opposition on the other, it has not has been an agreement and consequently it waits until the end and that's what really stacks things up there at the end."

Nevertheless, Moffitt says there were some highlights, like actually getting a state budget passed and on the Governor's desk before the end of the session, and before the start of the fiscal year.

Moffitt says he voted for parts of the budget, not the whole thing, and says it's nice that the budget finally includes a good estimate of what state revenues will come in.
