Catholics in Peoria, Joliet Say No More Adoptions
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Catholic Charities in two more Illinois cities have notified the state that they won't license families for foster care or adoption since civil unions became legal.

Catholic Charities representatives in Peoria and Joliet sent letters this week to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Joliet executive director Glenn Van Cura says it's the group's ``religious practice'' not to place children with unmarried couples.

Scores of same-sex partners across the state applied for civil union licenses this week under a new Illinois law that recognizes them as couples for the first time. Opposite sex couples also can get civil unions.

DCFS Kendall Moore says the moves have ``legal and logistical issues.'' He says the letters are under review.
Officials from the Rockford Diocese made a similar request last week.
