County Board Approves Project Payments
Work to renovate a portion of the Knox County Nursing home is officially complete.

The Knox County Board met in special session Monday night and learned that, but not before approving an $80,000 payment to Galesburg-based Johnson Building Systems for some of their work on the project.

Knox County Board Chairman Greg Bacon says some mistakes were made that led to the somewhat big bill.

"There was a miscommunication between the architect and Johson's and us, so we needed to get it paid because they were due. And Lyle[Johnson] signed it and instead of me just signing it and just kind of calling everyone and telling them about it, I thought we'd just get it in here."

Bacon referred to Nursing Home Committee Chair Lyle Johnson.

The board also approved paying architect firm Durrant over $28,000 for work they've done already on the renovations to the Knox County Courthouse, and approved a formal contract with Donnie Gladfelter of Hein Construction to act as construction manager on that project, following Johnson's resignation.

A payment was also approved to Gary Tomlin for his work on a grant-funded drug education program being run by the Knox County State's Attorney's Office.
