City Program Under Council Microscope Monday Night
The Galesburg City Council will talk about something that almost got cut from the current city budget, during a special work session Monday night.

Aldermen will continue their series of budget-related work sessions Monday with one on the Neighborhood Enhancement Division.

In recently years the department which has dealt with unkempt properties and the demolitions of homes and buildings in poor shape has become an arm of the Galesburg Police Department, run by former Officer Kip Canfield.

The City has stepped up property demolitions in recent years, with several more just approved by aldermen last week.

But at least three aldermen said as far back as a budget work session in November that they don't like the program, think it's not working, and that it should be cut.

Residents, however, have argued against that.

Cutting the program is not expected to be part of the discussion Monday evening, but it could be if aldermen feel the same as they did in November.

Aldermen meet at 5:30 pm Monday in Galesburg City Hall.

Monday's regular Galesburg School Board meeting won't be held until June 25th, but a City Liquor Advisory Commission meeting is scheduled for 4:30 Monday, assuming the Commission can get a quorum, which has been a problem in recent months.
