Idea for Improving Neighborhood Enhancement Division in Galesburg
Galesburg's City Manager has given some ideas for how to improve the city's Neighborhood Enhancement Division, and customer service may be at the top of that list.

Todd Thompson provided the suggestions as part of an over two-hour meeting Monday night - one where several residents claimed the division was simply not good and has threatened them over the years with inconsistent policies relating to the clean-up of yards, homes, and other areas.

Thompson says one of the ways the city can help is to provide the means for which to help residents clean up unkempt properties.

"I think a big one, in my mind, would be develop resources to assist compliance and compile a resource guide for violators," Thompson said. "The resource guide would offer resources in the community."

Thompson also called for standardizing the reporting process, using items like the web and other documents for better reporting by the public and tracking of the end results of such complaints and, among other things, an administrative hearing process.

Thompson says reports will be given to aldermen quarterly on how Neighborhood Enhancement is improving.
