Motion Denied to Dismiss Attempted Murder Charges for Galesburg Man
A judge has denied a motion to dismiss charges against a 47-year-old Galesburg man accused of attempting to murder a woman.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate Judge Scott Shipplett issued the denial to Sterling Nicholson Wednesday. Nicholson has already pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.

He's accused of battering a 41-year-old woman and causing numerous facial injuries to the victim in January. The women reportedly suffered skull fractures and internal bleeding to the brain from the incident on South Whitesboro Street.

Nicholson was charged by the state with three counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery, and one count of Aggravated Battery. A Knox County Grand Jury indicted him on identical charges in February.

Wednesday's Motion Hearing was a continuation to one a week ago, where Public Defender Jim Harrell requested time for his client to undergo D-N-A testing. Nicholson's Jury Trial was previously canceled a few weeks ago but is now scheduled to begin Monday.

He remains in Knox County Jail on $500,000-dollars bond.
