Lighter Agenda for City Council Monday
The Galesburg City Council meeting Monday night should be a bit shorter now that a potentially controversial item has been temporarily pulled from the agenda.

As we reported first last week, the decision on whether or not to re-zone Aluminum Castings so that the firm can complete their multi-million dollar expansion will be delayed until July second.

This, city officials told us, so that the environmental concerns 5th Ward Alderman Peter Schwartzman had could be addressed.

Aldermen Monday will, however, take up the proposed redevelopment plan for the almost-complete apartment complex being marketed to Carl Sandburg College students.

The final consideration comes months after construction began, and almost two-months after the City's Joint Review Board approved the plan.

Aldermen will also consider applying for a new state grant to continue environmental clean-up efforts at the former Knox Laundry facility near Kellogg and Ferris Streets.

City officials say additional site and research needs to be completed before environmental remediation efforts are done.

Aldermen meet starting at 6:15pm Monday for a public hearing on a pre-annexation agreement for city water service on a site close to Soangetaha Country Club.

The regular meeting will start at 6:30pm.
