Abingdon Mayor Wants Public Comment Guidelines Enforced
The Mayor of Abingdon isn't going to let residents speak at any more city council meetings without meeting the proper guidelines.

Roger Stegall explained at Monday evening's meeting that people are no longer following the rules. He says the council has lost control of its public comment section.

Stegall says he wants a resolution honored that includes submitting a subject line when residents register to speak publicly.

"This has been on the books since 2008," Stegall said. "And I'd like to see us get back to that, so that when you post the agenda out here it should be on the agenda what they folks are going to talk about."

"So that everybody here on the council, if they're going to be involved in it, you have some time to respond and get some answers to what's going on."

Other criteria includes registering by 4pm the Wednesday before, keeping comments to five minutes, and refraining from any insulting remarks or unfair characterizations.

Stegall's call to enforce the resolution Monday night comes after he was reportedly accused of perjury two weeks ago. Many community members have voiced their frustrations over Stegall's handling of the city's government.

Some claim Stegall is running a "Nazi Camp." Many are suggesting "something big" for the mayor at Abingdon's City Council meeting July second.
