Lake Storey Pavilion Damaged by Vandals
Someone allegedly tried breaking into Lake Storey Pavilion during Monday's overnight hours.

Galesburg Police say they responded to the site Tuesday morning after a city employee reported an attempted burglary at the pavilion. They say the main doors were pried on and the handle to the lower west doors was pried off.

According to a police report, the upper level doors to the main banquet hall were apparently pried on as well. Police say the frame was bowed out, and could no longer be locked normally. No one actually gained entry into the facility.

Five canoes and two John boats were also unbound and missing from a beach area at the rear of Lake Storey Pavilion. Authorities say they were later located-- floating near the west boat ramp. Records show the suspects tried breaking the chains to the paddle boats too, but were unsuccessful.

What's more, police say a small tree was uprooted. They are estimating $650-dollars in total damage administered to the building. No suspects are believed to be in custody at this time.

Police ask if you any information on who may have committed these acts to please contact the Galesburg Police Department or call the Galesburg-Area Crime Stoppers hotline.

Nightly patrols are being increased in the Lake Storey area.
