Local Red Cross Volunteer Heads to Colorado
A Monmouth resident is heading to the front lines of the wildfires in Colorado.

Mary Jo Sherman is headed there for the American Red Cross, and will be working with other Red Cross volunteers providing assistance to those providing relief and shelter in the

Sherman tells WGIL she is not quite sure yet where she's going, but she could start out in Loveland, Colorado.

"From there I'm not sure whether I'll stay around in that area," Sherman said. "Most of the acreage that's been burnt has been around the Estes Park, Boulder area. And another place they could send me is to Colorado Springs."

Either way, Sherman says she'll be working to coordinate local volunteers, and keep them involved in relief activities.

For her, Sherman says, that means making sure all the volunteers have what they need, including food and places to stay.

Sherman expects to be gone three weeks. It's her third relief mission for the Red Cross.
