London Mills Woman Pleads Guilty to Smuggling Drugs into Prison
A judge this week sentenced a London Mills woman to four years in prison for trying to bring drugs into the Knox County Jail.

Knox County Circuit Judge Scott Shipplett issued the sentence to 44-year-old Erin Nelson at Wednesday's Plea Hearing. She pleaded guilty to one felony count of Bringing Contraband into a Penal Institution-- another charge was dropped.

On May 30th, Nelson had pleaded not guilty to the allegations she had attempted to smuggle cannabis into prison. After re-pleading Wednesday, Nelson will spend the next four years imprisoned at the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Sheriffs Deputies discovered the drugs on Nelson when she show up three-and-a-half hours late for a weekend jail stay in April. They had suspected someone would try to sneak the contraband in because of an earlier tip.

Court documents indicate Nelson will receive credit for sixty-eight days already served in jail. A $2,000-dollar assessment charge is attached to the plea, and also other miscellaneous costs.
