Supreme Court Decision to be Looked at by City Council Monday
Citizens United will be on the mind of the Galesburg City Council Monday night after all.

As Mayor Sal Garza promised, aldermen will take up a proposed resolution that if approved, would denounce a Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited campaign contributions from major businesses and industry.

Local activist Jerry Ryberg has urged aldermen to take up his proposed resolution for months.

Ryberg says other cities across the country have passed similar resolutions, and Galesburg should be no different, because issues like that decision affect local residents, especially the middle class.

Ryberg says big business is essentially running Congress with the so-called "Citizens United" decision.

Aldermen Monday will consider the development agreement regarding the new student housing complex for Carl Sandburg College students.

Construction on "The Villas" at CSC is almost already complete, so some have said the construction firm doesn't need the incentives being provided.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 6:30 Monday evening inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
