Local Lawmaker on Receiving End of Political Tirade
Perhaps by now, you're familiar with this outburst that happened about a week ago in the Illinois House.

When State Representative Mike Bost went on his rant about House Speaker Michael Madigan, and when he threw papers up in the air, guess who was in the line of fire.

"Most of that stack of paper landed on my desk."

State Representative Don Moffitt's desk is a row below and a few seats away from Bost. Moffitt says he and Bost have talked about the incident a few times.

And Moffitt tells WGIL Bost's point, tirade aside, is a good one.

"As a legislature I feel it," Moffitt said. "(There's) too much power in one position-- bringing things up the last minute, literally, not just at the eleventh hour, almost the end of the eleventh hour to make big changes."

"And when you've had five months to bring fourth legislation and then to make dramatic changes or proposals for the first time like that-- that's not good, open, transparent representative government."

Moffitt says ideally, legislation should be seen by lawmakers at least a few days ahead of the time. But he says with the proposed pension overhaul and the state budget, they weren't.
