Wataga Man Arrested Tuesday Morning for Allegedly Shooting Rabbits
A 20-year-old Wataga man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly shooting rabbits from the bed of a pick-up truck.

Police say a complaint around 4:30 am at a North Henderson Street gas station indicated three individuals were bragging about killing rabbits. Daniel Kenney and two others were located shortly after near Galesburg Cottage Hospital in a red Ford pick-up-- each had blood smeared on their jeans.

According to a Galesburg Police report, Kenney admitted to allegedly killing several rabbits with a pellet gun while the driver of the vehicle delivered newspapers. Kenney was reportedly armed with three pellet guns behind the passenger cab in the truck's bed. Records show a fourth weapon was discovered in the cab, along with a bloody knife in the driver's side door.

Police say next to Kenney was a bloody garbage bag in a plastic tote with visible dead rabbits. They say there were eight lifeless critters in total.

The driver on his paper route told police his uncle was a taxidermist and that he was offering $10-dollars for each killed rabbit. The driver was not arrested. The third subject was arrested on an active warrant, but has since posted bond.

Kenney was arrested for unlawful use of weapons and hunting rabbits out of season, while exceeding the limit of five per day. He's awaiting a court appearance.
