Man Claims Injury from Errant Shooting Range Bullet
A Galesburg man claims he's been injured after a bullet fired at the Lake Storey area shooting range for the Galesburg Police Department hit him and his boat while he was fishing on the lake.

Derek Price tells WGIL News in an e-mail that while he was fishing Tuesday, a bullet brushed his leg and bounced off his boat, causing a minor injury to him, and damage to his boat.

Price says he believes the bullet was fired from the Police Department Shooting Range nearby.

Price says he wasn't necessarily looking for any attention on the matter, but he just wants other people fishing on the lake and in that area to be wary, and he wants to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

Galesburg Police reports do indicate officers responded to Price's complaint around quarter to five Tuesday afternoon, but he believes his treatment made him feel he was the one at fault, and not anyone at the shooting range.

Price claims it's simply unsafe for a shooting range to be that close to an area where children and families congregate.

Police say the bullet caused a small dent in Price's boat, but they also say that a full investigation into the matter is ongoing. The shooting range must pass annual inspections in order to be open.
