The Search is On for Next YMCA Director
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 6/7/12 The Executive Board of the Knox County YMCA is indeed searching for its next Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.

But Chairperson C.L. Cummings isn't telling WGIL if former director Linus VanderWyst walked away or was terminated.

"We just have to be very careful about the 'why's' and the 'where to's' and the exact labels," Cummings said Thursday. "But I will confirm Linus is no longer with the YMCA."

Cummings is again declining to explain the circumstances of VanderWyst's departure, deeming it as a confidential and personnel matter.

He says the board truthfully wishes him the best and his eleven years heading the Y are appreciated. As for VanderWyst's legacy with the Y, Cummings isn't sure what that will be.

"I'm not certain what people will think," he said. "I know he has a lot of support in the community, which is fantastic, we are happy about that. There are two good capital campaigns under his watch, and I think that's what people will think about when they think about Linus."

Cummings says eighteen directors on the executive board will immediately begin identifying internal candidates to fill the Executive Director and CEO vacancy.

For now, Cummings says Sarah Brown has been appointed to that position in an interim role.
