Monmouth Man Struck and Killed by Vehicle; Coroner Classifying as Accident
Authorities in Monmouth say a man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a four-lane highway.

Police Lieutenant Joe Switzer says 48-year old Lonnie Hardy of Monmouth was walking north across U-S Highway 34 when he was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on 34 west of the junction with North Main Street. Warren County Coroner Bill Underwood says the accident happened around 11 p-m last Thursday and Hardy was pronounced dead later that night at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth.

Underwood says an autopsy revealed Hardy died of blunt force injuries and no inquest will be held.

Switzer says the driver of the vehicle and witnesses told police the vehicle had a green light and Hardy was walking against a red light. He says it was not a hit-and-run.

Underwood is classifying Hardy's death as an accident.
