U of I: Blame Media for Uproar Over Clout List
The admissions process at the University of Illinois is still respectable according the university's director of undergraduate admissions.

Stacey Kostell testified before the Admissions Review Commission Wednesday in Chicago. She pointed a finger at the media for disrupting the lives and work of her staff.

"This thing that was kinda private, regardless of how ugly you may think it is, it was kind of internal, has now become very public and you know that obviously causes difficulties for my staff and for our office," Kostell testified. When asked by one commissioner if the transparency exposes the process but doesn't excuse it, Kostell started crying.

"Whatever is reported in the media and whatever happens, we're the first contact," Kostell said. "I really think that it's been so over blown in the media that the admissions process doesn’t have integrity, and it very much does. I disagree with the fact that these 33 kids were admitted but it doesn’t mean that the admissions process is corrupt."

The commission is investigating how 33 students allegedly used political clout to gain admittance to the U of I regardless of grades or test scores. Commissioners are also looking at Illinois' other state universities.

Meanwhile, University of Illinois President Joseph White says he plans to testify to the commission.

In a release issued Wednesday, White says the school wants to take "corrective action."
