FIRST ON WGIL: Illinois Guard Confirms Galesburg Soldier's Death in Afghanistan
POSTED 5:15pm 7/8/09, UPDATED 10:55am 7/9/09 A Galesburg man has paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country in the current wars on terror.

Messages of sympathy are pouring into one of two MySpace pages for Army Specialist Christopher Talbert.

The Illinois Army National Guard says the 24-year old man died Tuesday, when his vehicle came across a roadside bomb in Shindad, in western Afghanistan -- and messages on Talbert's MySpace page have been appearing since Tuesday offering sympathies.

Talbert, according to his MySpace page, worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital as a civilian, was an EMT and fireman, and an army medic.

Talbert, according to the Guard, was a 2003 graduate of Galesburg Christian High School, and this was his first deployment since enlisting in 2007.

Talbert is the third Guardsmen killed in Afghanistan this week, and the 33rd member of the Guard from Illinois killed since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq began.

The Guard says funeral arrangements have yet to be made. If they are, we'll let you know here on WGIL and wgil.com.
