Quinn Praises Burris' Service
Governor Pat Quinn only had good things to say about U.S. Senator Roland Burris (D-Ill.), who announced Friday that he would not seek election in 2010.

Quinn says he has known Burris and his wife for a long time and that Burris has done good work for the people of Illinois . "Roland Burris is someone who, I think, is someone who has made history in Illinois , from the day he jumped in a swimming pool in Centralia back in the 1950s to make sure it was open to all," Quinn said. "People in Illinois will always be grateful to Roland for his service as a youth, then as a public official."

Burris served as the state comptroller and as attorney general.

Governor Rod Blagojevich appointed Burris to the Senate just weeks after Blagojevich was arrested for allegedly trying to sell an appointment to the vacant seat for personal gain. A U.S. Senate ethics probe was launched, as well as a perjury investigation by the Sangamon County State's Attorney. The perjury investigation eventually ended with no charges filed against Burris.
