Charges Filed After Car Hits House in Galesburg
Two Galesburg residents are in trouble with the law after one of them loaned a car to the other, then that car struck a house.

Galesburg Police reports indicate officers were called to the 800 block of South Cedar Street around 3:30 Sunday morning after a red four-door Pontiac Vibe struck the north side of a house there. There, an eyewitnesses says someone in the vehicle was seen fleeing the scene following the crash.

Police say the vehicle, later identified to be driven by 23-year old Brian Kelley, left the west side of the street, striking a tree, then striking the house after travelling through the home's front lawn. Investigators found parts of the car and a baseball cap near the site of the crash.

47-year old John Reeves, the brother of the registered owner, told police he loaned the vehicle to Kelley to drive for 40-dollars, but later described the incident to police as a, "bad drug deal."

Kelley was found later in the morning at the residence of his girlfriend in the two-hundred block of Columbus Avenue. He faces preliminary charges of Driving on a Revoked License, Failure to Give Information after Striking Property, Operating a Vehicle With an Expired Registration, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

Reeves faces charges of Theft Over $300 after his sister told police she had no idea he took the vehicle, along with another charge of Obstructing Justice.
