| Services Announced for Army Spc. Christopher Talbert -- PROCESSION, FUNERAL, AND CONDOLENCE INFORMATION HERE |
FIRST REPORTED 11:30am, UPDATED 12:19pm 7/13/09 Funeral services are complete for a local soldier who lost his life last week in Afghanistan. Local Family Readiness Group Coordinator Dave Greenlief says the body of 24-year old Army Specialist Christopher Talbert will be escorted Tuesday to Galesburg from the Quad City International Airport. The aircraft carrying Talbert is expected to arrive at the airport at 4:45 Tuesday afternoon. Greenlief says after a brief moment with the family, Talbert will be escorted to the Colonial Baptist Church at 1232 West Fremont Street - where he will receive a Heroes Welcome. Greenlief says the procession will travel from the airport south on U-S Route 150, and once it gets close to Galesburg, it will travel through Talbert's hometowns of Knoxville, East Galesburg and Galesburg. Talbert attended Knoxville High School before graduating from Galesburg Christian School. Anyone wanting to show support for the family are asked to gather either along the procession route or at the church no later than 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. Supporters are encouraged to bring a United States Flag or a sign. Greenlief says a public visitation for Talbert is set for Thursday from 4 to 8 p-m at Bethel Baptist Church on North Academy Street in Galesburg. The funeral will be held at the church Friday at 11 a-m. He will be buried in Knoxville Cemetery. The Department of Defense says Talbert died last Tuesday (July 7th) in Shindad, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near a vehicle he was in.
Talbert was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment. He enlisted in and served with Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 123rd Field Artillery of Milan.
