Maybe a State Budget After All
State lawmakers will likely be voting on a new state budget plan. This is according to the "positive vibes" coming out of the first of Tuesday's two rounds of budget talks at the Capitol. The second round was to start at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday

Gov. Pat Quinn and the four legislative leaders spent more than two hours at mid-day trying to find agreement on a state budget, and calm the fears of state workers, medical providers, schools, human services providers and others who rely on state money. The Senate leaders, Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) and Minority Leader Christine Rodogno (R-Lemont) are being tight-lipped about when went on in the meeting, but say the tone was "positive." House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) agrees, but gives a few more details.

Cross says everyone's leaning toward a full-year's budget, with no tax hike, and a "review" after the start of 2010. He says Quinn is pushing for the review, which likely gives Quinn the opportunity to make deep cuts and put lawmakers on the hot seat for not approving more money.
