Moffitt: No More Finger-Pointing in Budget Mess
A local lawmaker says it doesn't much matter how the state got into its fiscal meltdown -- what does matter is getting it solved.

State Representative Don Moffitt says he's aware of reports where top Republican lawmakers have placed part of the blame on the situation that led to Governor Pat Quinn's veto of what's been called a 50% state budget on continued spats among top Democrats in Springfield.

But Moffitt tells WGIL the blame game doesn't need to be played right now. "My objective is to come to a resolution, to try to solve this problem," Moffitt said. "For six years, I have voted against the budgets because they're out of balance. That doesn't make the problem go away. We need to deal with what we have at hand. At hand, we have a deficit budget that, without some new revenue, some of the programs that we've had for a number of years can not continue, and that's the situation we're in."

Moffitt does say, though, one political party is on total control, and they've been warned for six years that continued out of balance budgets will make it harder and harder to keep spending.

He says he would love to see a bi-partisan solution, and that Quinn is just "telling the situation like it is."
