| Big Bang Boom Set for July 4th |
The area's largest fireworks display will once again be presented at Lake Storey Park on the Fourth of July.
This is the 13th year that the display is fully synchronized to a musical soundtrack that will be broadcast on WGIL (AM 1400) and The Laser (92.7 WLSR-FM). The best place to view the show will be from near the beach and pavilion area on the north side of the lake. Many of the visual effects will only be seen from the north side of the lake.
Big Bang Boom 2009 is presented as a group effort between the City of Galesburg, the Galesburg Jaycees, WGIL, and The Laser. This year's sponsors include Galesburg Toyota Honda, OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Wells Fargo Bank, Blick Art Materials, Mechanical Services, Inc., galesburg.info, Wendy's, and the Landmark Cafe and Creperie. This show would not be possible without the involvement of all of these supporters.
This year's soundtrack is produced by Brian Prescott from WGIL/The Laser and the display will be launched by J & M Displays of Yarmouth, IA. WGIL and Laser air personalities will be broadcasting throughout the day from Lake Storey leading up to the broadcast of the synchronized show on Saturday night.
Other events going on throughout the day at the Laser broadcast location include The Laser's annual Frisbee tosses and chances to qualify to win a Monster Vermont Castings Grill from Lambasio Incorporated. WGIL will be giving away Adventureland tickets at their broadcast location.
According to the event's producer Roger Lundeen, WGIL/The Laser General Manager, "I hope that everyone in the area takes the opportunity to come out and see Big Bang Boom 2009. It should be another great show, and definitely the biggest in our area. It is a great event for the Galesburg community."
Big Bang Boom 2009 will begin at about 9:30 pm. In case of rain, Big Bang Boom 2009 will be held on Sunday, July 5th. |
